Contact Information for Participation in Golden
Retriever Cancer Research
The Health and Genetics Committee, Golden
Retriever Club of America, is requesting that all owners of Golden
Retrievers carry the attached Letter & Chart
to their veterinarian for placement in the Golden’s chart. Then,
should the Golden Retriever be diagnosed with (or suspected of having)
cancer, the owner and veterinarian can consider donating blood and
tissue or blood samples.
A Note about Rescued Golden
Retrievers and Golden Retriever Cancer Research.
GRCA Research Facilitator, Rhonda Hovan, has
requested that this information be circulated as widely as possible,
including to Rescue programs. Some of the studies, she explains, do
require pedigree information (particularly those investigating
heritable cancer risk factors) and some owners of rescued Goldens are
without such information. As a result some rescued Goldens may not be
eligible for all studies. Ms. Hovan, however, invites those owners to
contact her to help determine how their affected dogs may help the
studies and/or how she may help them, and those owners should not
hesitate to contact her (rhondahovan@aol.com).
