Charlie's Story

Charlie Before

Charlie After

Charlie was an owner turn in to Cobb County Animal Control in Marietta, Georgia.  He had been neglected for many years, flea infested and underweight.  His owners wanted him euthanized.  Cobb County contacted Dixie Golden Retriever Rescue and Charlie was taken from the shelter.  He weighed only 49 pounds, his skin was infected from years of fleas and he could not stand for long periods of time.  Charlie was rescued in August and he was 9 years old.

Charlie went into a foster home where he received 4 happy months of TLC.  He put on weight slowly and developed his strength within several weeks.   His coat began growing back once he was given a proper diet and no fleas.   He knew he was very special and enjoyed having someone care for and about him.  Charlie spent fall and winter playing with other goldens, swimming in the lake and playing in the creek.

Charlie's best Christmas present was a call from a family interested in adopting him.  In January, Charlie was adopted by a retired couple living in Florida.  They had recently lost their 14 year old golden and saw Charlies story.  Charlie left his North Carolina foster home and headed for his new family in Florida.  On his journey to Florida, he spent several days on the coast of South Carolina enjoying the Atlantic Ocean.  Charlie is living the good life today on the east coast of Florida with his new forever family that includes a Golden Retriever sister named Amber (also age 9).
